How to Create Custom Conversion Goals in Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
A Google Analytics conversion goal occurs when a website visitor takes a specific, high-value action on a site. A Google Analytics conversion goal could be a website form submission or a click on a call-to-action such as phone number or email. Tracking goal conversions helps you measure your marketing and website performance.
You can create conversion goals in your Google Analytics 4 based on the actions you want to track. In this article, we will show you how you can track contact form submission (assuming that your contact form redirects to a “thank-you” page after a website visitor submits a form).
Here is how you can create a conversion goal in Google Analytics 4 (using contact form submission as an example and assuming that the contact form is redirected to a thank-you page after each contact form submission).
Go to Configure.
Then, select Create Events.
Then, click on Create
Use an event name (e,g. contact_form_submission) as the custom event name, page_view as the event_name, and your thank you URL as the page_location.
Create the custom event and then go to Conversions and click on New conversion event.
Enter the event name that you used for a custom event (e.g. contact_form_submission) and press save.
Make sure that the conversion goal is enabled.
To test whether your goal conversion is working, visit the page that you’ve used for page location as your goal conversion. Then go to Report > Real Time in your GA4 account and see if GA4 is tracking the conversion.
